Transitioning Bass Patterns…..

Transitioning from fall to winter bass fishing can be a challenge, especially when you are tournament fishing.

Bass become more active feeders in fall in preparation for the approaching winter. Knowing that bass will migrate along contour lines and structure when changing locations in a lake, from a main channel to deeper channels or from feeder channels back up in the coves. I look for concentrations of shad or other baitfish seen on top or on depth finders and structure. Also, look for creek channels with bends, fishing different depths and fishing deeper to shallow points in coves. Don’t overlook the larger flats. Bass tend to stay in these shallower feeding zones longer in the morning and arrive earlier in the afternoon.

Match the Hatch, colors for lures are those that mimic the bait. I prefer baits that work up off the bottom for suspended fish and that imitate dying baitfish. Deep diving crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, swimbaits, and even topwaters, and my favorite, the El Grande Lures Hatch Match Stick either T‐ or C‐ rigged.
